OrderPaperToday – Some members of the House of Representatives have described their late colleague, Mr. Ossy Prestige, as a voice of reason and wisdom who would be sorely missed.
Mr. Prestige passed on in far-away Germany after suffering from a deadly cancer attack.
Speaker Gbajabiamila made the announcement of his demise through a letter addressed to the House of Representatives by his family during plenary session on Tuesday.
Some members who spoke to OrderPaper Nigeria had some nice words of the deceased lawmaker.
According to Onofiok Luke representing Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium federal constituency of Akwa Ibom State, Prestige would be sorely missed.
“I will say the people of Aba North/Aba South federal constituency are going to miss him. Not only the people of constituents but Aba State as whole will miss him and of course this chamber would miss him,” he said, adding:
“Honourable Ossey Prestige was a voice of reason, a voice of truth and a voice of wisdom. For the little time I have come to associate with him I will say he stood for truth and honesty. Nigeria is going to miss him; his constituency is going to miss him because he was a grassroots politician.
“He was a man that cared so much about the well-being of his people; I can say this authoritatively because my home state bordered by Abia State and I have friends and relatives in Aba who give me feedback and I’m aware he is a grassroots politician who is always rising to the occasion of people, assisted the people and doing whatever he could to ensure they are okay.”
On his part, Mr. Okwudili Ezenwakwo representing Orumba North/Orumba South federal constituency of Anambra State said, “I sympathize with his family and the people of Aba North/Aba South; however it is something we cannot change because death is inevitable. We miss him and we will continue praying for the repose of his soul.”
