OrderPaperToday – The Lawmaker representing Wase federal constituency of Plateau State, Idris Wase, has emerged as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The lawmaker who has been in the House since 2007 was returned unopposed for the position on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. But who is Idris Wase?
Early life and education…
Idris Wase was born on the 1st of June, 1964 in Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State. He enrolled into LSB Primary School Bashar where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1978. He then proceeded to Government Secondary school Mbar and he was later transferred to Government Secondary school Dengi the present day Kanam Local Government Area.
Wase obtained a National Diploma in Civil Engineering from Plateau state Polytechnic and a Higher National Diploma from Kaduna state University.
He also acquired other certifications from other schools, including Harvard Kennedy School of Government, United states where he bagged an Executive Certificate course in Strategic Governance in 2016.
Prior to his service at the National Assembly, Wase worked with Bauchi State Ministry of Environment from 1988-2002, and also as Non Academic staff at Kaduna State Polytechnics.
Wase was elected into the lower Chamber of the National Assembly in 2007 under the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). He has subsequently won reelection and now in his 4th term as a federal legislator.
In 2018, Wase was appointed the Deputy leader of the House following the death the former deputy leader, Buba Jubril.
Following the 2019 elections, Wase declared his intention to run for the Speaker but was prevailed upon by his party to support Femi Gbajabiamila as speaker. His loyalty was rewarded as he was tapped as Deputy Speaker.
In the 7th and 8th Assembly, Wase served as the Chairman on Federal Character until his selection as Deputy Leader.
