OrderPaperToday – Convener of the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, Clement Nwankwo, has described the recent redeployment of security operatives as ‘worrisome’.
He stated this at training for election reporting organised by the Situation Room and TheCable on Thursday in Abuja.
Nwankwo’s reaction is coming on the heels of an announcement from the Police Service Commission (PSC) that commissioners of the force from across the country will be reshuffled from February 16.
He said: “If there’s some perception that security officials may be partisan, then I think responsible authorities should ensure that they are not included in election arrangement.
“So, the worry we have is why this deployment or changes are being made seven days to an election, and I think that’s the beat of the worry.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Nwankwo tasked journalists on factual reportage of the electoral happenings.
Also speaking at the event was Programme officer of Cable Newspaper Journalism Foundation (CNJF), Abiose Adams, who stated that the role of the media in elections is of utmost importance.
One of the facilitators, Lanre Arogundade who is director of International Press Center (IPC) told participants to focus on “issues of public interest, being balanced and inclusive.”
