OrderPaperToday – In what seems to be response to the public outcry on some provisions of the Companies & Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, the member representing Nkwerre/Isu/Nwagele & Njaba federal constituency of Imo State, Mr. Ugonna Ozurigbo, has indicated his intention to propose an amendment.
In a memo submitted to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and sighted by OrderPaper Nigeria, Mr. Ozurigbo requested for listing of the proposed amendment bill for first reading.
According to the member, the bill is “intended to amend the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 to preserve the sanctity of religious bodies.”
A cross section of Nigerians and groups, including the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), have expressed very strong reservations on the Act signed by President Muhammadu Buhari in August.
It will be recalled that the Vice President had advised CAN to adopt the Constitutional approach of addressing their concerns by approaching the National Assembly for an Amendment.
