OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives on Wednesday adjourned plenary abruptly following reports of the collapse of the National Assembly gate allegedly by protesters of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as Shiites.
The House was in the middle of considering reports before the Chairman of the Committee of the Whole and Deputy Speaker, Lasun Yusuf (APC, Osun) informed the House that the protesters who have been protesting the detention of their leader, Ibrahim Elzazaky, many months, have breached security at the first gate of the National Assembly.
The Deputy Speaker advised that the House would need to adjourn as a precautionary measure, as the security of the members should be paramount.
He requested that the Sergeant-at-Arm should give the House five minutes to dispense with the agenda under consideration at the time. Accordingly, other items on the order paper for the day were stepped down.
