OrderPaperToday-The House of Representatives has adopted a 15 minute break in plenary session to be used for “leg stretching, tea time and Muslim prayer”.
The new 15-min break will be observed from 1:00pm to 1:15pm on plenary days.
Deputy leader of the House, Peter Akpatason, on Thursday moved a motion under Personal Explanation for the House to adopt the new schedule.
“I am coming under Personal Explanation. The speaker has observed that on several occasions, people have reasons to come in and go out. Staying in one place without stretching of legs poses a health hazard. We should adopt 1:00pm to 1:15pm starting from Tuesday next week for leg stretching and praying time,” Akpatason moved.
Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila had earlier said that the time will afford the Muslims to pray, and that tea will be provided at the front of the entrance of the chamber.
The House adjourns sittings till 11:am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday, but reconvene at that time. With the introduction of the break, the House which usually resumes between 11:30 to 11:40 would break at 1:00 to 1:15 before returning to the business of the day.
