OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives Tuesday urged the executive to rename the National Institute of Construction Technology and Management, (NICT) Uromi in Edo state in honour of late political icon and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tony Anenih.
The decision followed a motion moved by Mr. Sergius Ogun (PDP, Edo).
In arriving at the resolution, the lawmakers who also mandated its committee on Legislative Compliance to ensure that the executive arm and appropriate government agencies complied with the decision.
Members who spoke on the motion argued that Anenih deserved the honour for providing his Nova Hotel facility to the federal government free of charge for initial takeoff and as temporary site of the institute.
According to the lawmakers, the late Anenih showed patriotism and listed some of his achievements including his service in the Nigeria Police Force from where he rose to become an Orderly to the first President and Governor General of Nigeria, late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe before he voluntarily retired from service in 1976 as Commissioner of Police.
