OrderPaperToday -The House of Representatives has mandated its committees on Sports and Foreign Affairs to investigate why Nigerian athletes to the 2016 Rio Olympics qualifiers were denied Visa by the Turkish Embassy.

This followed a motion raised under Matters of Urgent Public Importance by Henry Ofongo (PDP, Bayelsa) at Thursday’s plenary.

Ofongo noted that while United States and Algeria had issued the athletes visa for the qualifying tournament, the Turkish embassy denied Nigerian Wrestlers and the Technical crew visa.

The lawmaker who further noted that there are several competitions and qualifying tournaments that Nigerian Olympic team needs to attend, called on the House to put measures in place to forestall a reoccurrence of the incidence which could affect Nigeria’s performance at the Rio 2016 games.

The House adopted the motion through a voice vote and mandated the Committees to report back within seven days for further legislative input.
