OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Public Accounts chaired by Mr. Oluwole Oke (PDP, Ekiti) has mandated the clerk of the committee to invite Ministries, Departments and Agencies(MDAs) whose accounts have been queried by Auditor General of Federation (AGF) report to appear before it immediately.
The committee also mandated its secretariat to find out the status of bills assented to which have not been implemented as laws and pending legislations referred to the committee for further action.
The directive was pushed forward by the chairman after a resolution by the committee during their first meeting on Thursday after inauguration. Oke further directed that an urgent meeting be fixed between the committee and the Auditor General of the Federation to brief it on pressing issues.
He also reeled out the work plan for the committe adding that there would be constant briefings by the Auditor-General of the Federation Accountant-General of the Federation and relevant arms of government to ensure accountability in line with the agenda of the 9th House of Representatives.
“In the 9th Assembly, we will do things differently. The 9th Assembly has started very well by synergising the executive. We want to support the President, we really want see democracy at grassroots. We will all come together and work while observing the rules of engagement.
“Pending legislations which were referred to this Committee by now we expect that the bills that were absented to become laws. The Secretariat is mandated to find out the status of the bills”, he stated.
Oke noted that there would robust capacity building through constant training and retraining of Members of Committee by reputable organisations within and beyond the country while Members would attend local, national and international meetings of Association of Public Accounts Committees.
The Chairman disclosed that the Committee would not harass any MDA appearing before it but would also not tolerate acts of indolence, adding that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) platforms would be deployed for public hearing and other engagements with MDAs.
