OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives has passed the prohibition of estimated billings bill.
The bill if finally passed by the Senate and signed by the President, the new law will criminalize estimated billings by compelling Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) to provide prepaid meters to customers.
The Committee of the whole of the House on Thursday considered the report on the bill and passed several amendments to the Electric Power Sector Reforms act, 2005.
Speaking on the report, the Sponsor of the bill, Femi Gbajabiamila said “that the bill seeks to compel the provision of prepaid meters to consumers, thereby putting an end to what is known as estimated billings.”
The House also passed two other bills sponsored by Femi Gbajabiamila on reserving 20% employment opportunities in Federal MDAs for physically challenged and the higher education loans for students.
The three bills were passed by the Committee of the Whole, awaiting the concurrence of the Senate.
