Reps row over Okorocha’s amnesty to criminals

OrderPaperToday – A mild drama enveloped the House of Representatives this afternoon as Rivers State caucus presented a motion seeking to squash the alleged grant of amnesty by Gov Rochas Okorocha to militants and criminals who have been declared wanted by the Rivers State Security Council.
The motion was vehemently opposed by Mr. Nnana Igbokwe (APC, Imo) who cited a section of the Constitution as giving the governor powers to grant persons amnesty whether convicted or on trial.
The position of the Imo lawmaker further infuriated the already tensed Rivers State members, who argued very loudly for more than twenty minutes, throwing the House into a state of disarray.
Members from the PDP threw their weight behind Mrs. Betty Apia (PDP, Rivers), the presenter of the motion, while some lawmakers of the All Progressive Congress supported Mr. Igbokwe’s position.
