OrderPaperToday – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday enjoined the executive to submit the Mid-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) by July before the legislature adjourns for it long vacation.
The Speaker further stressed the need for quick submission of budget by the executive so as to speed up work on the proposal to avoid nagging delays.
The Speaker made the following remarks during a courtesy call by the ‘Secretary to Government of the Federation’ (SGF), Boss Mustapha, in National Assembly.
Addressing his guest, Mr. Gbajabiamila said: “I want to also use this opportunity to appeal to you to inform the President to submit MTEF before the House goes on break next month. We also want the budget to be presented by the executive in September so as to avoid all this nagging issues on budget delay”.
The Speaker also spoke on other issues, including “an international standard type of library for the national assembly because I promised during my inaugural speech that I would operate an Information Communication Technology (ICT) system.”
He also announced that upon resumption of the national assembly tomorrow, “the members would experience some form of transformation because work in the chamber is almost 80% completed and therefore moving forward, they would be such things as face recognition and electronic registration for members”.
On his part, Mr. Mustapha congratulated the Speaker for his election.
Mr. Mustapha who spoke earlier said: “I congratulate the Speaker and his Deputy for emerging victorious in a keenly contested, bye-partisan and transparent election. This is a courtesy call to pursue the part of work together to ensure that our people get the dividends of democracy which they truly desire.
He continued: ” I am confident that the caliber of people elected in the ninth assembly would go along way in proffering solution that would bring succour to our people “
