OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives Committee on Nigerian Air Force has revealed that by January 2020 it will engage the United States Committee on Air Force on the Super Tucanos the country planned to purchase.
Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Shehu Koko, disclosed this on Wednesday during the inaugural meeting in Abuja.
“Following our last meeting with the leadership of this House and the Service Chiefs, I’ll like to report that we contacted the US Congress committee on Air Force. I want to assure this House and the Nigerian Air Force management team that by next year January we’re going to engage the US Congress committee on Air Force our Super Tucanos”, he said.
He noted that in this regard, the commandant of Air Force on technology will be invited next week to defend their budget.
Earlier, the lawmaker lauded the efforts of the Nigerian Air Force in ensuring security of lives in the country and noted that the National Assembly is concerned with the numerous security challenges in the country.
While lauding the efforts of the Nigerian Air Force, the committee chairman listed that oversight of the Nigerian Air Force Development Projects, Oversight of the Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna among others will be carried out.
He noted that, the the House will endeavor to strengthen legislative frameworks and provide adequate funding where necessary, through enhanced budgetary allocation to the Nigerian Air Force.
On his part, Chief of Air Staff Air Vice Marshal AVM Sadique Abubakar said that the Nigerian Air Force has successfully launched six different operation strategies to tackle insecurity and other forms of criminality in the different parts of the country.
AVM Abubakar disclosed that the agency was saddled with the responsibility of national security and was at a point grappling with serious threat to national security by bandits and criminals in Nigeria.
