OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the alleged molestation of pupils of deaf and dumb school Kuje, Abuja.
The House resolved to set up an ad-hoc committee that will visit the school to get a first hand information on the rape of the pupils.
The resolution was sequel to a motion moved by Musa Pali, entitled: ‘Need to Investigate the Molestation of Pupils of the Deaf and Dumb School at Kuje, Abuja.’
Pali stated that school of the deaf and dumb located in Kuje was periodically invaded by cultists who molest children between 6 and 8 years of age.
He said: “The Punch Newspaper of February 6, 2019 published a report on tension at the School for the Deaf and Dumb in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja by suspected cultists.
“The school, which accommodates little children, both boys and girls of between 5-6 years who are mostly defenseless and vulnerable, is being invaded regularly by cultists who abduct and molest the children.”
He explained further the special pupils with communication impairment were unable to communicate their experiences.
He added that the ministry of education, the police and the Federal Capital Territory Administration have been informed of the occurrences but that nothing has been done by the authorities.
He expressed concern “that those children have special needs and cannot easily or freely communicate the abuses and other forms of ill treatment meted to them,” regretting that “since concluding investigation into the matter by the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Capital Territory Administration and the Nigeria Police Force, no action has been taken on the matter.”
Mr. Herman Hembe (APGA, Benue) moved that all other prayers of the motion should be stripped until investigation is concluded, and when the presiding officer, Ahmed Wase put the motion to question, the “ayes” had it.
