OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives on Wednesday resolved to make funds available in the 2020 budget for the training of local vigilantes and hunters engaged in the combat with boko haram terrorism.
The House also called on the federal government to provide logistics and financial resources to the army to train vigilantes and hunters to help end the war.
The decision followed a motion moved by Haruna Mshelia (APC, Borno), entitled: ‘urgent need for community engagement and participation in the final push to end insurgency in the north east zone.’
The House mandated the Committee on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Refugees and Initiatives on North East Zone (when constituted) to ensure that funds are included in the 2020 budget for the attainment of the above objective.
Moving the motion, Mschelia revealed to the House that the army has already commenced the training of 1000 local vigilantes and hunters, but called on the Theater Command of the 7th brigade to expand it across the zone.
He added that the training of the vigilantes who are familiar with the northeast terrain than the army will prove successful just like the Civilian Joint Task Forces (C-JTF) in assisting the Armed Forces in their operations.
