OrderPaperToday – The Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday, approved a N10 billion bailout fund to be accessed by the state government.
The assembly has also elected two principal officers – Mr. Martin Amaewhule – Leader and Mr. Major Jack – Deputy Whip both of whom were subsequently sworn in by the Clerk.
In a letter to the Assembly, read by the speaker, Mr. Dabotoru Dima Adams, the state governor, Nyesom Wike, requested the assembly’s approval to access the Federal Government bailout fund.
Governor Wike said the N10 billion fund had become necessary to enable the state pay salaries, pension and carry out other projects.
Leader of the Assembly, member representing Obio/Akpor I, Mr. Martins Amaewhule, said the governor’s request was in line with constitutional powers vested in him to source funds where the need arises.
He commended the governor’s visionary approach in bringing the dividends of democracy to the people. He said the bailout fund, as requested by the governor, is to ensure the state is put on the pedestal of speedy development.
After taking the votes of the eleven members in favour of granting the N10 billion bailout fund request, said that as legislators, they will do everything within their powers to support the state governor to develop the state.
