Saraki reacts to links with DSS, Akpabio’s resignation

OrderPaperToday – The Senate President, Bukola Saraki has reacted to reports in some quarters that he masterminded the DSS invasion of the National Assembly yesterday in order to wind up public sentiments against the APC and President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

Speaking on the matter at a World press conference today, Saraki warned persons making such insinuations to desist from insulting the “integrity” of Nigerians and taking them for fools.

He said:  “Nigerians are not fools and I believe it is an insult on the integrity of all of us. As early as 6am, hundreds of officers of the DSS started arriving. We have our Sergeant-at-Arms, we have our security, we never requested for it. The only time we had trouble was when the mace was stolen.

“The same DSS that withdrew our security, are now all of a sudden loyal to me, let us not insult the intelligence of Nigerians.”

The Senate President however reserved praise for the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo who promptly fired DSS boss, Lawal Daura over the incident. He urged the Executive to remain consistent in administering sanctions to head of security agencies who fail in their duties.

Meanwhile, Saraki also reacted to the recent resignation of the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio who is said to be on the verge of joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Senate President looked to play down the significance of Akpabio’s resignation, stating that “it is not a national issue.”
