OrderPaperToday – The Senate on Tuesday began consideration of the request by President Muhammadu Buhari for approval of a Lagos State Development Policy Operations loan of two hundred million dollars.
The loan fully supported by the World Bank is to enable the state handle developmental programme and was accordingly referred to the Senate ad-hoc Committee on Local and Foreign debts chaired by Senator Kabiru Gaya for further legislative work. The report of the committee is expected to be submitted in one week.
Meanwhile, the Senate has condemned the recent bomb blasts in Adamawa State. A motion sponsored by Senator Ahmadu Abubakar adopted by the senate had urged security agencies to intensify the hunt for the perpetrators of the blasts in order to bring them to justice.
Senator Abubakar raised concerns about the pathetic humanitarian crisis in the North-east lamenting that situation has left the region as a place with the largest population of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Africa and one of the largest in the world.
He noted that several thousands of people have been killed and property worth billions of naira destroyed as a result of the nefarious activities of boko haram.
The senate however resolved to send a delegation to commiserate with the Government and the people of Adamawa State especially families of the victims.
