OrderPaperToday – The Senate has demanded for the list of beneficiaries of the 5,000 Naira Social Intervention Scheme.
The scheme was an initiative birthed by President Muhammadu Buhari and was a significant part of his campaign promises.
The Special Adviser to the President on National Social Investment Programme, Maryam Uwais, was asked to make the submission during the 2018 budget defence hearing held by the Committee on Appropriation.
Speaking at the hearing, the Chairman of the Committee, Danjuma Goje, lamented that the general population was kept in the dark on the progress of the scheme, hence, their request for the list of those benefitting from it.
Goje said, “Nigerians are yet to feel the impact of the social intervention programme of the Buhari-led government despite the sum of 500 billion naira appropriated in 2016 and 2017 respectively for the scheme.
“Social Intervention Programme seems to be performing at cross purpose with the intention of the President as they are doing very poorly in the area of publicity.”
Participants of the public hearing also queried the selection process of beneficiaries as only 20 States out of 36 have been included so far.
