Senate introduces state police bill

OrderPaperToday – The Senate has passed for first reading a bill to allow for the creation of state police.

The bill is a constitutional amendment legislation and has been brought up sequel to a point of order raised by Senator Jonah Jang (PDP, Plateau) on the 3rd of July, 2018 about the killings that took place in Plateau state.

The Clerk to the Senate, Nelson Ayewoh on Thursday read the bill and the presiding officer, Ike Ekweremadu approved it for legislative processing.

Giving his remarks on the bill, Ekweremadu said, “It has been taken for the first time. I am sure that has soon as possible we would take the second reading and then send it to public hearing through the committee as well so that we fast track it as directed by the senate.”
