OrderPaperToday – The Senate on Tuesday passed a bill to provide for adequate transportation and protection of workers.
The report of the bill was presented by the Chairman, Senate committee on Land Transport, Senator Gbenga Ashafa (APC, Lagos).
The bill ensures there are safety measures for workers including provision of trucks constructed for the purpose of conveying them to and from work places.
It also provides that seats and seat belts are adequately secured and properly in place.
The bill also raises the fine for corporate bodies who violate provisions of the act from N1 million to N5 million while an officer or director in charge of workers’ transport welfare in an organisation will pay a fine of N200,000 or one year imprisonment or both.
