OrderPaperToday – The report investigating the alleged assault on a nursing mother by Senator Elisha Abbo was laid in the Senate chamber on Tuesday.
It would be recalled that a video released by Premium Times showed an alleged assault by Senator Abbo targeted at a pregnant woman at a sex toy shop in Abuja.
The matter was brought to the chamber and an ad-hoc committee was set up to probe the incident.
Recall that on the first investigative hearing, the Senator appeared and had a verbal exchange with one of its members, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Subsequent meetings were held in closed door session.
Upon presentation of its resolutions to the chamber on July 17, the Chairman of the committee, Sam Egwu, requested for an extension because the parties involved, the Senator, the Commissioner of Police as well as counsel to the victim, appeared before the committee but refused to give details as the matter was already in court.
The red chamber insisted that the matter was not encroaching into the judicial intervention as the legislature was only trying to investigate an alleged misconduct by its member.
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, mandated the committee to submit a report within a week.
The report was however not presented due to the commencement of the annual recess of the lawmakers.
The proposed presentation was therefore made by Senator Egwu who laid the report.
