OrderPaperToday- The Senate on Wednesday resolved to probe the implementation of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Program (SURE-P) under the administration former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The resolution was proposed by Senator Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano) following the controversy generated by the comments of Minority Leader, Biodun Olujimi who alleged that APC-led government of President Muhammadu Buhari is buying Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) with funds meant for its Social Intervention Programme. Subsequently, the Senate resolved to set up an Ad-hoc Committee to investigate Olujimi’s claim.
While contributing an additional recommendation on the issue, Jibrin prayed the red chamber to similarly probe the social programme of the last administration known as SURE-P.
“The ad-hoc committee should also investigate the implementation of the sure-p policy from its inception till the end of the Jonathan administration,” he submitted.
Earlier, the Senate Leader alleged that the SURE-P scheme under Jonathan was immersed in corruption.
“By the way, we were here when SURE-P or ‘UNSURE-P’ was instituted and all the money in our treasury was stolen,” the Senate Leader said.
