OrderPaperToday– The Senate on Thursday informed that it will meet with the the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole over the crisis bedeviling the state assembly.
This resolution was made after the appearance of some 12 aggrieved members of the assembly loyal to Oshiomhole before with the Senate ad hoc committee investigating the matter.
On June 17, 2019, 10 out of the 24-member Assembly loyal to the incumbent Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki were inaugurated under controversial circumstances leaving out a 12-member faction loyal to the former governor.
The National Assembly intervened with the House of Representatives mandating Obaseki to proclaim a fresh inauguration of the assembly.
Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved members-elect at the meeting, Washington Osifo, member-elect representing Uhunwonde State Constituency explained that his faction did not receive any communication from the Clerk on the day of the inauguration.
Osifo also alleged that Obaseki was using state apparatus to oppress members belonging to Oshiomole’s faction.
He further revealed that one of them has been kidnapped and the others have been in Abuja for a month.
The Chairman of the committee and Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (APC, Niger) while briefing the press said the committee will meet with Oshiomole.
Abdullahi also assured that the Senate will restore peace and order to the state assembly.
