Senator says Kogi Deputy Governor is unable to pay electricity bills

OrderPaperToday – Senator Attai Aidoko has lambasted Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State over non-payment of salaries, accusing him of leaving the Deputy Governor of the State financially “stranded”.

Aidoko made the claim while contributing to a motion by Senator Dino Melaye who alleged that the state government has signed off on a $500 million loan.

Speaking on the matter, Aidoko said that despite allocations to the state in the form of bail outs and Paris Club Refunds, civil servants and high ranking officials of the state including the Deputy Governor have been left stranded.

“The salary impress of the Deputy Governor has not been paid for the past one year. The Deputy Governor is just stranded because no money is sent to his office, even the residential pole of the Deputy Governor, the light has been cut off, there is no light in the Deputy Governor’s house,” he said.

The Senator added: “The State Assembly just yesterday adjourned sine die because salaries and allowances have not been paid to the State Assembly. As we speak, there is no state Assembly in Kogi State.”

He therefore called on the Senate to halt any attempt by the State Government to acquire loans for the purpose of paying salaries as previous interventions have yielded little or no result.
