OrderPaperToday – A member of the 8th assembly, Shehu Sani, has joined his voice to the public outcry against recently announced increment in taxes and bank charges on withdrawals and deposits.
Senator Sani called on the National Assembly to oppose the increments.
Recall that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved an increment on Value Added Tax (VAT) from 5 per cent to 7.5 pee cent while the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) proposed charges on withdrawals and deposits into banks by customers.
Also, the Senate Committee on Finance has reacted to the VAT increment with a promise to meet with the Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) over the tax increase.
However, reacting to the new development, Senator Sani in a tweet on Saturday morning from his personal handle, said: “No responsive legislature or responsible legislator will be silent or condone the brazen anti people & exploitative policies of raising VAT & swindling Nigerians through extortionist Bank charges by the CBN in the face of glaring economic hardships.”
Sani was chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts in the 8th assembly. He lost his bid to return to represent Kaduna Central senatorial district.
