Buhari, Lawan, Gbajabiamila, others pay respect to fallen and serving military officers
OrderPaperToday– As Nigeria marks the 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Senate president, Ahmed Lawan and the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, have saluted the nation’s fallen and living heroes for their sacrifice to the fatherland.
January 15 every year is set aside to honour fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price for the country during the First and Second World Wars, Nigerian Civil War, Peace Support and various internal security operations in the country.
An event to mark the day was attended by President Muhammadu Buhari and other top political officers where wreaths were laid in honour of the fallen heroes at the National Arcade in Abuja on Wednesday.
The event was in honour of the brave men and women who fight day and night to protect the corporate existence of Nigeria and its territorial integrity.
Lawan, who was represented by the Senate majority leader, Yahaya Abdullahi, said via his Twitter account, “It is with great sense of pride that I join the rest of Nigerians in celebrating the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives and are in the fore front of securing our country. We salute your courage, bravery and dedication. #ArmedForcesRemembranceDay.”
Speaker Gbajabiamila was present at the wreath-laying ceremony during the 2020 Nigerian Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations.
In a message posted on his official social media pages, the speaker said, “Today, we stand united in remembrance of our soldiers who paid the supreme sacrifice, and in salute of those who defend the country daily. I want to appreciate the courage and patriotism of all our service personnel. Happy 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration.”
