South-east APC members insist on Reps speakership position

OrderPaperToday – The agitation for inclusion in the leadership of the 9th National Assembly took another dimension as some founding members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-east geo-political zone under the name of  “APC South-East Renaissance Group (ASERG)” has urged the party to consider zoning the speakership position to the south east.
The group said many years down the line the people of the zone are still faced with rejection, denials, deprivations and exclusion from political and social-economic inclusion.
The chairman and convener of the group, Mr. Chris-Lance Onyemachara, noted that many in the South-east who left other political parties and joined the APC in the hope that they would be absorbed in the mainstream have been disappointed.
According to him, “we passionately wish to change the narrative that APC is unpopular in the south east. Though, we need encouragement, to be able to show our people that this party really means well for our region.
“In spite of the odds against us, the members of the south east have shown immense capacity and leadership in the region and should be encouraged with such strategic position as the speakership of the House of Representatives.
“It is on record that APC south east massively mobilized their people for President Buhari and ensured that the opposition did not, as usual, fraudulently return the scandalous figures of 2015.”
He further emphasized that “Mr. President had earlier in his acceptance speech after winning the 2019 election, said his victory was for all Nigerians and his government would be all inclusive. So we therefore call on our great party members from other group-political zones, jostling for the position of speakership in the House of Representatives to forthwith withdraw from the race and support the south east in the spirit of fairness, justice and equity.”
