OrderPaperToday – As the Speakership tussle for the House of Representatives gathers momentum, an Ohaneze Ndigbo youth group has called on the leadership of the all Progressives Congress (APC) not to jettison the federal Character principle as well as gender parity with in which it rode on to emerge victorious in the recent general elections.
Making this known in statement by it’s publicity secretary, Okey Nwachukwu, the group categorically urged the APC leadership to adopt a fourth term member of the House of Representatives, Nkeiruika Onyejiocha, as Speaker in the 9th Assembly.
According to the statement, Ohaneze Ndigbo youths intentionally endorsed and voted President Muhammadu Buhari and as such “deserve a principal position of Speakership of the House of Representatives in the person of Mrs. Nkeiruka Onyejiocha who is also a fourth term representative and the highest ranking member from the South East zone of the country.
“We also call on the members of House of Representatives elect to toe the path of equity and gender consciousness by supporting the aspiration of an experienced fellow ranking Federal House of Representatives member Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejiocha, from Abia.”
It said Onyejiocha represents both the interest and integrity of over 90 million women in the country as well as the entirety of Ndigbo who are anticipatory of the ability of the lawmakers to live above partisan interest and ensure that equity and federal character principles of the country is given a human face in voting for principal officers of the 9th assembly.
The group further called on the national chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomole and the party to withdraw support for Mr. Femi Gbajiabiamila as the party’s choice of Speaker for the 9th National Assembly.
“Ndigbo finds Mr. Oshiomole’s implicit support for Hon Femi Gbajiabiamila as not only divisive, but also disrespectful of Ndigbo in general”, Nwachukwu said.
