States should cue into FG’s economic diversification drive – Tambuwal

OrderPaperToday – Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal has described the federal government’s economic diversification efforts as commendable and worthy of emulation by every state.

He noted that because of the long term benefit of the diversification policy of the federal government, Sokoto state is copying the template.

Tambuwal made this declaration while declaring open the 9th meeting of the National Council on Industries, Trade and Investment, on Friday in Sokoto State.

Tambuwal said Sokoto has already taken a cue and has doubled its efforts to create sustainable industries in all parts of the country.

He maintained that part of his administration’s efforts to diversify the state’s economy is exploration of mineral resources.

“We are making huge progress in harnessing those resources for the benefit of our people. We believe this will go a long way in complimenting paradigm shift agenda of Federal Government from oil to non oil sectors,” he added.

The Former Speaker of the House of Representatives noted that in its effort to create enabling environment for investments, the state government has instituted a strategic plan which has so far yielded positive result.

“This initiative led to the establishment of an organic fertilizer plant, Sokoto textile factory, sugar processing factory, tomato processing factory among others scheduled to come on board soon.”

He therefore appealed to the federal government to give priority to the protection of consumer rights through quality control measures.

He said: “To achieve this, priority attention should be given to product quality control mechanism and standardization to protect the consumer, while ease of doing business should be extended to small businesses by way of ensuring ease of access to financing and other support services.”

In his remarks, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, said the diversification agenda of the Federal Government has now made the country to be among top nations promoting reforms worldwide.
