OrderPaperToday – It’s been 10 days since the national assembly passed the 2019 appropriation bill but is yet to transmit same to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.
The 2019 appropriation bill was passed on Tuesday 30, April 2019 by the two chambers of the National Assembly, following which the chairman of the appropriation committee of the House of Representatives, Mr. Mustapha Dawaki (APC, Kano) told newsmen that the budget would be transmitted to the President in two days’ time (Thursday).
Ten days after, this is yet to happen, prompting OrderPaperNG to find out the delay in the transmission to the presidency. It was discovered that budget was sent to the Clerk of the National Assembly on 9th of April.
All efforts to get to know from the Clerk’s office if the document has been sent to the President proved abortive as the media officer to the Clerk couldn’t be reached for response.
The Special Adviser to Mr. President on National Assembly Matters, Mr. Ita Enang, couldn’t be reached as well. He did not respond to text messages sent to his mobile phone.
However, the Director of Information, National Assembly, Mr. Emmanuel Agada, in response to our inquiry, said the legal department of the legislature is working on the budget.
As to when the bill will be transmitted to the presidency, he said: “No idea for now. But the legal (department) is working on the clean copy”.
The national assembly passed a budget of N8.91 trillion different from the N8.83 trillion presented by President Buhari in December last year.
