OrderPaperToday – Senator Kabiru Marafa on Thursday expressed appreciation to his colleagues for approving an intervention fund to the tune of N10 billion in the 2019 appropriation bill.
The fund is to be used to take care of humanitarian crises in Zamfara state caused by prolonged and violent armed banditry.
In a point of order raised during plenary, Marafa commenced by thanking the Senate President, Bukola Saraki while offering him a lady for marriage.
Marafa said: “Mr President, I want to thank you specifically. A lady in my constituency said I should tell you specifically that she has never seen you hit the gavel the way you did yesterday and I should tell you that when you commence your sabbatical, that she has offered herself to marry you, if you so wish.
“I told her to wait until we see facts and figures in the 2019 budget. With respect and apology to Madam at home but from where I come, you are allowed up to four wives so madam should please keep space because anytime I sit at home and look at the size of the house, I feel it is grossly underutilized. On behalf of all the people of Zamfara state, I want to thank you so much and also the leadership of the Senate.
To Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, he wished him a successful retirement as a “government pikin” due to his non return to the 9th assembly.
According to Marafa, Senator Shehu Sani who chairs committee on foreign and domestic debts was “legislatively violent” with the position “and we are all going to be together in retirement, me, you and Senator Monsurat.”
The Zamfara Central lawmaker equally commended the Chairman of Appropriations and members, saying “you have done your utmost best and look forward to your efforts and cooperation.”
The Chief Whip, Senator Adeyeye was also lauded by Marafa whom he described as a “retiring Senator” and added, “you performed very well. Obviously nobody will say they want to marry you.”
The lawmakers burst into laughter.
Marafa continued by appreciating the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
He said: “You are wearing quite a befitting cap today. You have called for a state of emergency in Zamfara but I will advise you don’t visit the Senate President in the office today for very obvious reasons- the Governors forum matter.”
Responding to Marafa’s point of order, Saraki said: “The point of order I don’t know which one you came under. I think it was out of order a long time about from the time you started offering marriage all over the place. On a serious note, I want to thank all the Senators who contributed.”
